Cosmo Cones

Love stayed. The fight came after.

Max Hart took his husband’s name like a coat. He did not check the lining. On a rainy Thursday the debt came to the porch, polite, and Benny Bell did not come back. Max woke eleven weeks later under a clean ceiling, with a nurse named Milo counting the pulse that returned. A novel about debt, grief, and the man who sat in the chair until the pulse came back.

Cosmo’s legs are shaped like ice-cream cones, and the hallway calls him Thunder Thighs. He tries to shrink. The jokes follow him home. A few years later, at twenty-five, he finds drag, takes a bus to San Francisco, and meets a monk in a tea shop who tells him he does not have to justify the body he was born with. He becomes Cosmo Cone. He keeps the old name, but he owns it. When someone teases the shape of him, he answers with kindness instead of shrinking. This book is about getting through being bullied and coming out the other side still kind, still yourself, and still taking up your own space.
